As Del Mar residents may already know, the nearly 60-year old Del Mar City Hall is out, and the new Del Mar Civic Center complex is on its way in. The old City Hall building was first used as a schoolhouse back in 1958 and is simply not large enough to meet the demands of the city. Plans for the new Civic Center complex first started in 2015. The old building will be demolished and the Civic Center will stand at the original location at 1050 Camino Del Mar.

Who Designed The Del Mar Civic Center Complex?
The established Miller Hull Partnership has been chosen as the architectural firm that will oversee the project. You can see the work of the Miller Hull Partnership all over the West Coast. Recently, they designed the new MarketFront addition at famous Seattle marketplace, Pike Place Market. The firm has offices in both Seattle and San Diego, but they are no stranger to working with small communities. You can also spot their work at UCSD, National City's Pier 32 Marina and the San Ysidro Point of Entry.

Who Will Provide Landscaping For The Del Mar Civic Center Complex?
Landscaping will be provided by San Diego-based Spurlock Landscape Architects. Spurlock has been creating gorgeous landscapes that connect communities for over 25 years. The firm has received prestigious awards for their creations from organizations such as the American Society of Landscape Architects, the American Institute of Architects and the American Planning Association. See their work at the New Children's Museum in San Diego, and Petco Park.

How Big Will The Del Mar Civic Center Complex Be?
Construction plans include an 8,722 square foot City Hall which will be used mostly for administrative functions and a 3,172 square foot Town Hall that will have a 250 person capacity. Additionally, the plans specify a 956 square foot Breezeway and a 15,000 square foot public plaza which will provide room for community events and activities. Parking shouldn't be a problem as plans include 160 parking spaces on a surface lot and on a partially below-grade parking structure.

How Much Will The Del Mar Civic Center Complex Cost The Community?
Costs for the Civic Center complex were originally estimated to be $12.9 million, but the total project costs are predicted to touch $17.8 million.

Where Did Del Mar City Hall Employees Move To?
The temporary offices are located at the South Fair complex at 2010 Jimmy Durante Boulevard. Employees can be found here for the next two years until the project is completed.
