Have you ever seen an ice skating rink, located just steps away from a sandy beach? As we dive further into the winter season, many of our go-to recreational, or date night activities are just not as appealing. The sunsets we used to enjoy at the beach are now only visible from behind a windshield as we battle rush hour traffic on the way home.
Each year, the need for winter-friendly activities gives businesses the opportunity to organize new seasonal projects. Luxury hospitality brands have capitalized on this opportunity, and have started to establish their own glimmering ice skating rinks.
LUXURY ON ICE
These luxury ice skating rinks are just as incredible as the hotels that house them, and allow both locals and tourists to feel like they are characters in a movie. The Standard in New York, The St. Regis Atlanta, and the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess have all created their own pop-up rinks, just to name a few.
Don’t think you need to venture across country to enjoy the lavishness of luxury ice skating. The ice skating rink at the Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas invites you to take a break from the crowded club scene, and skate while overlooking The Strip.
ICE SKATING IN SAN DIEGO
The Hotel Del Coronado in San Diego has snagged a piece of this market as well. Skating by the Sea on Coronado will run until January 3rd. One side of the rink offers magnificent views of the Pacific, while the other side reveals the Hotel Del completely illuminated with white Christmas lights. The seaside rink is truly a sight to see.
Skate for a Cause
Proceeds from Skating by the Sea are partially donated to Make-A-Wish San Diego. Skate rentals are free, and tickets are only $25 making this the perfect opportunity to embrace your charitable side this holiday season.
Ice Skating in Rancho Santa Fe
Get a taste of winter favorites without ever leaving North County San Diego. The Inn at Rancho Santa Fe has created their own winter wonderland, too. Ice skating at The Inn is the ideal Friday night activity for singles or families. If skating doesn’t strike your fancy, there are a ton of holiday options available in the Rancho Santa Fe community.
While our winters may only consist of an occasional dip into the 60’s, San Diegans don’t have to miss out on seasonal favorites like ice skating. Grab your scarves, hats, and gloves, and pretend you’re zooming around Wollman Rink in Central Park.
